Working in an underwater, offshore environment is a highly specialized skillset. Topside personnel and the commercial diving team must work together to ensure safe and successful outcomes. Recently, American Marine Corporation (AMC) was the prime contractor for the LADWP (Los Angeles Department of Water and Power).
AMC and PMG were a perfect match on this project. AMC contracted PMG to provide the PTS-270, our largest floating crane barge. This big-rig comprises a DEMAG 2800-1, 660 Ton crane on a 270’ x 68’ ABS oceans deck barge, outfitted with a four-point mooring and winch system. PMG also provided Ocean-going tugs to tow and tend the PTS-270 throughout the operation.
The Project consisted of the removal of 24 submerged concrete vaults measuring 11’ x 7’ and weighing in at 25,000 lbs. each. American’s diver rigged the utility vaults at a depth of approximately 100’. The project was located offshore of Santa Monica Bay. From mobilization through operations and de-mobilization, the project lasted six days and was completed on-time, on-budget, with high marks for safety and zero injury or loss. PMG congratulates AMC on a job well done and looks forward to the next joint project.
