If you work around Los Angeles you quickly learn that it prides itself as a movie town. When locals say they are in The Business, they mean the productions of movies, television shows, and advertisements. Pacific Maritime Group has a branch in Long Beach and at times we can proudly say we, too, are in The Business.
Recently we were the location for a shoot for a popular television show. We cannot divulge too much but this show, in its fifth season, is in its shooting period. A critical scene was shot here on an August night. A peek:
The location scouts chose PMG’s location because it offered space enough for a car chase that ended with cars in the water. Sounds easy, but the prep took several days. Special Effects set an anchor plate with a block.
The cars to go in the water were stripped of engines and anything that might contaminate the bay.
So the car, during the chase and when launched into the water, was towed by a cable. Again, not difficult for the talent as Special Effects. But the shot required a lot of people:

Our part of the production took all night. How did it go? The plucky heroine was rescued from the water. The Director was happy. That was the result we looked for, so we are too.
